Our verdict on JOI AI

Best for lifelike companions who share photos and short videos

JOI AI is a character chat service that runs in the browser. Its operator is Novi Limited, a Cyprus-registered company that also makes the EVA AI companion app. You can pick from Joi Original characters, community creations and celebrity "digital duplicate" characters, or design your own, then chat by text with generated photos, short videos and video calls mixed in. Novi also runs joi.com, an NSFW-oriented front end that shares the same terms.

Explicit content is permitted for adults 18 and over, and it is paid for with Neurons, the site's in-app currency. According to the terms, a romantic message costs 4 Neurons, viewing a photo up to 120 and viewing a video up to 1,900. Taking out Premium gives you a monthly Neuron allowance plus 10% off any Neurons you buy.

It is a good fit if you want realistic or anime companions and visual media in a single place, with the site available in seven languages. On the downside, there is no native mobile app, prices stay hidden until you register, and a pay-per-use currency makes your monthly spend hard to forecast.

Why this score. Features rates highly because image, video and video call tools are built in, along with custom characters. Chat quality and characters rest on largely favourable 2026 reviews, although some mention weaker memory. Value is pulled down by the Neuron system, which reviewers call costly if you use a lot of media. Privacy reflects a Cyprus-based operator that promises never to sell data yet uses messages to train its AI and lacks robust age verification. UX loses points for having no native apps and keeping prices behind sign-up.

We created a fresh account in English and chatted first with Jenny and then with Liv. All the results below come from our own session in a normal browser rather than from the platform's claims.

As with any AI companion, keep details that identify you or other real people out of your chats.
