Best for text roleplay across a big library of user-made characters
At its core, SpicyChat AI is a character roleplay service fed by its own community, and it belongs to NextDay AI Incorporated, a Montreal company. Members can build chatbots, lorebooks and group chats of 2 to 10 characters, then share them in a public catalog that held roughly 373,000 chatbots in September 2026. Chats run on whichever of its ten-plus language models you select, and the biggest ones are kept for pricier plans.
Free accounts get unlimited messages (we sent 100 straight without being queued) but only around 4,000 tokens of context, and the company warns that ads and busy-hour waits can appear. On 8 September 2026 the three paid plans were repriced to 5.95, 19.95 and 29.95 USD a month. Paying removes ads and unlocks longer memory, image generation inside chats and extra models, plus text-to-speech with custom voices on the top plan.
The best fit is someone who mainly wants text roleplay, a deep character pool and a say in which model answers. On the downside, iPhone users have no native app, Android requires a sideloaded APK, some regions demand a selfie or ID before NSFW content unlocks, refunds are hard to get, and the terms let service staff read chats.

Why this score. Chat quality 7: results hinge on the model you run; reviewers rate roleplay highly on the big paid models, but the free 8B default and its 4K context hurt continuity. Characters 8: the catalog is vast and spans many genders and styles, though community bots are uneven. Features 8: you get group chats, lorebooks, memory tools, personas, images and TTS, yet no video and no voice calls. Value 7: the free plan is generous and entry costs 5.95, but images and voice have moved up to dearer plans. Privacy 4: staff may read chats, the content license is sweeping, and the privacy policy was last revised in 2023. UX 6: reviewers call the layout busy, and iOS has no app.

The site warns of ads and peak-time queues, yet on Saturday evening, 26 September 2026, we got through 100 messages with no cap, no queue and no outside advertising in the chat. Free accounts run on the standard models (SpicyChat Default 8B and TheSpice 8B) with a 4,096-token context window and answers capped at 180 tokens. Auto responses in group chats are switched off for free users. Trial: the official docs mention no trial of the paid plans. The free plan never expires.

How many free messages does SpicyChat AI give?
Our fresh free account sent 100+ messages on 26 Sep 2026 and never saw a limit. We typed them in one long run on a Saturday evening and were never put in a queue. An "Advanced Models, Upgrade Now" box stays visible in a corner throughout. Near message 90, the replies began reusing the same phrasing.
Is SpicyChat AI filtered on the free plan?
Not in our 26 Sep 2026 test. On a free account, flirting, undressing and explicit sex were all allowed on the default model. One character, a strict boss, turned us down within the story as soon as we reached for her clothes; that came from how she was written, not from a filter, so we dropped that scene.

The privacy policy, last revised in May 2023, lets data go to affiliates, business partners and service providers. A deleted account is gone for good. The docs say age verification images go to outside partners and are never received or kept by SpicyChat. As on any AI companion site, keep identifying details about yourself or real people out of your chats.
